Skills/Compétences Canada is a Canadian charitable organization that promotes skilled careers in trades and technologies to youth and their communities.
This privacy policy sets out how Skills/Compétences Canada (“S/CC”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and discloses, any personal information that you give us or that we collect when you use our website (the “Website”).

1. What Personal Information we collect
“Personal Information” is any information about an identifiable individual. This includes information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This information can include an individual’s opinions or beliefs, as well as facts about, or related to, the individual such as a first and last name, home or other physical address, an email address, payment information, a phone number or other contact information.
Generally, we collect information about our competition participants, past competition participants, volunteers, members of the Board of Directors, members of the National Technical Committee, employees, staff, members of the media, sponsors, and other stakeholders. We may collect this information directly from you, for example, if you complete a form on our website, or from a third party through whom you receive our services, for example, if you are the parent of a child who attends one of our events, we may ask you to complete a release from which will be provided to us by your child’s teacher.
The Personal Information we may collect depends on how you choose to use our Website and services. We may collect the following information:
- Your name, and contact information such as your mailing address, telephone number and email address,
- Date of birth,
- Information necessary for us to provide accommodations, such as whether you have an allergy, or require a mobility aid,
- If you are receiving a t-shirt or other clothing from us, sizing information,

2. What we do with the information we collect
S/CC may use the Personal Information collected in order to:
- Provide you S/CC activities and the use of our Website.
- Register you for an event, provide you with appropriate registration materials (e.g. a t-shirt in the size you requested); and conduct the event.
- To administer our events, such as using information including registration information, the number of people attending, their age range and educational level, accommodation information, what events each person will participate in, travel information, and release information, to plan and operate our events.
- Facilitate statistical research.
- To communicate with you. For example, we develop databases of information such as our newsletter recipient list to promote the Skills Canada National Competition and other special events throughout the year as well as keep stakeholders aware of the issues surrounding skilled trades and technology careers, such as by sending our newsletter.
- Complete financial transactions, if you are a school, supplier, or other legal entity doing business with us.
- Improve our activities and services.
- Provide you with support and handle inquiries.
- Ensure that our Website remains functioning and secure.
- Investigate security breaches or cooperate with government authorities pursuant to a legal matter.
- Where permitted by applicable law, or required to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and assist law enforcement agencies as required.
We may also anonymize, aggregate or otherwise strip any personal information or other information we collect of all personally identifying characteristics and may use or share that aggregated, anonymized data with third parties for any purpose we deem appropriate.
3. When we disclose Personal Information
The information collected by S/CC is used by S/CC national and provincial offices. We may share your Personal Information with third parties that help us use your Personal Information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including with the Government of Canada for statistical research or contact from respective Ministerial offices in relation to congratulatory messages.
We may also share personal information with service providers that assist us with the activities described in this Privacy Policy, such as travel agencies that assist us with arranging group travel, payment processors, and companies that help us run our Website.
We reserve the right to transfer any personal information we have in the event of bankruptcy, or if we or any part of our business merges with or is acquired by a third party, or if any such transaction is proposed.
We may also disclose personal information to third parties if we have reason to believe that disclosing such information is necessary to: (i) conduct investigations of possible breaches of law; (ii) identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be violating an agreement they have with us; or (iii) to protect our rights, safety or property.
Finally, we may also share your personal information where permitted by applicable law, or required to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.
4. How we use cookies and collect information using technology

We may use this data to understand how visitors use our Website, determine what parts of the Website are most popular, to ensure our Website functions and displays properly, and to help improve it. - Google Analytics, Google Search Console and YouTube to monitor and analyze the use of our Website. Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic and behavior. Google Search Console is used to monitor and analyze impressions, clicks, and position on Google Search of our Website. It tracks: organic search clicks, organic Google search impressions, organic search clickthrough rate, and organic Google average position.
Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our Website. This data is shared with other Google services. Google may use the collected data to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network.
YouTube analytics data is used for reporting and evaluation purposes. The data collected includes the number of subscribers, watch time, impressions, click-through rates, comments, likes, dislikes and view duration. This data is collected via videos watched on the YouTube channel or on our Website, when videos are embedded from YouTube on our Website.

- Crazy Egg Analytics to help us understand visitor behaviour, assess usage patterns and perform traffic analysis by identifying preferences and analyzing trends. Crazy Egg cookies are placed on your device to view how you are interacting with our Website. The information collected by Crazy Egg may include: browser information, operating system information, mobile device information (e.g., device identifier, mobile operating system, etc.), IP address, the pages of our Website accessed, general geographic location, time of visit, referring site, application or service. - Facebook – we may use the Facebook Pixel and other Facebook services to understand and improve how you interact with our Website, and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising. Facebook may collect IP Addresses, and provide statistical data of different categories about users of our Website, for example, what actions are taken on the page.
