RBC to Award $1,500 Cash Prize to the Best of Region Recipients at the Skills Canada National Competition 2025, in Regina

OTTAWA, Ontario, March 27, 2025 – Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC), a not-for-profit organization that encourages youth to pursue a career in the skilled trades and technologies, is proud to announce that RBC will continue their support for the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC). This year SCNC will take place in Regina, Saskatchewan, at the Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) District, on May 29 and 30, 2025.

SCNC is an annual event where over 500 students and apprentices across Canada including future chefs, welders, IT specialists, mechanics and many more will be going head-to-head to become national champions. The competition is all about showcasing skilled trades and technologies to help youth discover the many opportunities available to them in these fields. At SCNC, RBC will host a booth with an interactive Try-A-Trade® and Technology activity and will also give out the Best of Region Award at SCNC’s Closing Ceremony.

“SCC is grateful for RBC’s continued support and their dedication to highlighting the importance of skilled trade and technology careers. SCNC helps inspire the next generation of skilled professionals as it highlights the incredible talents of young Canadians, while reinforcing the importance of industry support in building a great future for them,” said Shaun Thorson, Chief Executive Officer at SCC.

The RBC Best of Region Awards is a prestigious award which is given to the top scoring competitors as a testimony to their skills and knowledge. In addition, the RBC Best of Region recipients will also receive a medal and a $1,500 cash prize at the Closing Ceremony.

“With 700,000 skilled trades workers set to retire before 2028, inspiring the next generation to consider skilled trades as a career of choice will be important to close the labour market gap,” said Gayle Corcoran, Senior Director, Social Impact, RBC. “Through our ongoing collaboration with Skills Canada, we are helping to unlock the potential of youth, who are showing both an interest and aptitude for a career in the trades.”
