With a family full of construction professionals, you might think Lilianne Dobbs was destined for a career in construction.

“The truth is I had decided to be a hairdresser at a very early age,” acknowledged Lilianne. “A career as a construction professional ended up being the right choice, but it happened purely by chance!”

One afternoon, her dad—a veteran of the construction industry—took her brother to the union hall, and Lilianne decided on a whim to come along. To her surprise, this day forever changed her career trajectory; Lilianne left the union hall registered for a three-week training course.

“I had no idea of my potential,” said Lilianne. “All I had was a ton of ambition and drive.”

That ambition and drive propelled Lilianne from a labourer position to a carpentry apprenticeship. Now, after more 20 years in the construction industry, Lilianne has moved through the ranks to become superintendent on some of Toronto’s most significant projects.

“Twenty-six years ago, I had no idea of the amazing and rewarding career I would have with PCL,” said Lilianne. “I have to say, my career is one of the most interesting things I have ever done!”
