Yin Tzu (Judy) Lan - 20

Biography  

I love the art of baking and creating something amazing from simple ingredients. I like sharing the baked goods I’ve made with my family and friends. I enjoy being creative, and with baking the possibilities are endless. There are so many textures, flavours and colours that you can combine to make a wonderful dessert. My career goal is to keep expanding my techniques and skills. 

I got involved in skills competitions when my instructor asked me if I’d be interested in entering. Without even thinking about it, I agreed. This is a once in a lifetime experience. It feels amazing that I’ll be competing at WorldSkills Lyon 2024, but also scary and nerve-racking. I feel my biggest challenge will be not to compare my work to others’. At the same time, I’m also looking forward to seeing each competitor’s product. 

Interesting fact 
I love to relax on my days off and just scroll through Netflix or the Internet to find something fun to watch. 

Skills for Success 
Being able to problem solve is important. There are times that ingredients are different, and I need to think of a way to make it work, or that the oven is hotter than it should be, and I need to remember to bake the food for less time.
