My Skills Journey
My Skill Area is Workplace Safety, and I competed in provincial skills competitions from 2017 to 2019, and at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) 2019, in Halifax. Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) has enabled me to develop my research and public speaking skills which have aided me in my career in policy analysis. It has also allowed me to travel around Canada and make lifelong friends through the competitions and the National Alumni Committee (NAC).
Joining the National Alumni Committee
I decided to join NAC because I believe it’s incredibly important to advocate for the skilled trades and skilled trade careers. I also wanted to join NAC because of the immensely positive impact that SCC has had on me. I want to give back in whatever way I can. I have loved meeting new people, whether making new friends through NAC, or volunteering at SCNC 2023, in Winnipeg and working with youth to show them around the competition floor.
Overcoming Career Barriers
In my first year of university, I was unsure about what I wanted to pursue. By exploring many courses in different disciplines, I found a passion and love for public policy.
Proudest Moment
In terms of my academic career as a student, my proudest moment was presenting my thesis proposal research at my university’s research fair. In my professional career, my proudest moment has been the current job I have working in public policy with the New Brunswick Department of Social Development.
