My Skills Journey

I competed in skills competitions across Newfoundland and Labrador in my Skill Area of Photography in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019. I also competed at the Skills Canada National Competition. Being involved with skills events has enabled me to greatly build my confidence. I started competing when I was 13 and continued until I graduated from high school. I essentially grew up with the Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) organization! I feel that my skills experiences have influenced and shaped me into the person I’ve become today. The ability to push myself out of my comfort zone, hone my skill, and travel with Team Newfoundland and Labrador each year has allowed me to personally grow and change.

Joining the National Alumni Committee

I joined the National Alumni Committee (NAC) because I had great experiences with SCC while I was growing up. I’m most excited to share my experiences with other students across Canada. I want to encourage them to explore opportunities within SCC and discover what the organization and its programs have to offer them.

Overcoming Career Barriers

I can’t really pinpoint any specific barriers that I’ve had to overcome to achieve success in my career path. I’ve been fortunate.

Proudest Moment

I’m unable to single out a particular moment that I’m most proud of. However, I won gold medals at the provincial skills competitions in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019, and I won the bronze medal at the Skills Canada National Competition 2019, in Halifax. Those experiences, and my ongoing involvement with the skills movement, have helped me to further develop my photography skills.
