Arianna Dyck, Miss Rodeo Agribition Alumni 2023-2024, Solders her Way to a Welding Career

Becoming Miss Rodeo Agribition 2023-2024
In 2023, I took a leap of faith and competed for the coveted title of Miss Rodeo Agribition — a decision that would change my life forever. This journey was anything but easy. Every challenge pushed me to dig deeper, sharpen my skills, and strive to be the best version of myself. The judges recognized my passion, determination, and unwavering ambition, and in November 2023, I was crowned Miss Rodeo Agribition 2023-2024! This incredible experience has not only helped me grow as a person but has also introduced me to inspiring individuals, opened doors to opportunities I never imagined, and fueled my love for the rodeo community even more.

How I discovered my passion for welding
My journey into welding started at Greenall High School, in Balgonie, SK, where I first took it as an elective in grade nine. Even though I was the only woman in the class, I refused to let that intimidate me. In fact, when someone tells me I can’t do something, it only fuels my determination to prove them wrong. Welding quickly became more than just a class—it became a passion. I wanted to master every aspect of the trade, so I pushed myself to improve with every project. What started as an elective turned into something much greater—a lifelong passion that continues to shape my future.

Forging a career in welding: My apprenticeship story
In my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to take part in the Metalworking Madness course at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Designed to introduce underrepresented groups—including women, Indigenous people, and individuals with disabilities—to the world of welding, this six-week program gave me an even deeper appreciation for this trade. It also allowed me to refine my skills and gain valuable insight into the industry. One of the biggest takeaways from the program and taking the class while in high school was learning about apprenticeships—a hands-on approach that allows you to earn while you learn. Since then, I’ve successfully completed my Level 1 and am now working toward my Level 2 hours, with the ultimate goal of earning my Red Seal certification by 2026. This prestigious certification will open doors for me to work anywhere in Canada and beyond, ensuring a future full of opportunity. After graduating, I landed a welding job and officially started my apprenticeship at SeedMaster Manufacturing, where I’ve been for the past two years.

My advice to future skilled workers
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that success in the skilled trades comes down to three key things: a willingness to learn, a drive to improve, and an openness to new opportunities. You need to show people that you’re eager to learn—because when you do, you’ll find people who are willing to guide and support you along the way. And most importantly, say yes to opportunities! This past year, I made a promise to myself that I would take on every challenge that came my way. And guess what? It changed my life. Each experience helped me grow both personally and professionally in ways I never expected.

SCNC Regina 2025
I will be participating at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) 2025, in Regina, on May 29 and 30. I look forward to speaking with student visitors and sharing my skills story. It will also be great to see SCNC for the first time!
