Leah Lucyshyn - 23

Biography  

I’m a non-stop creative who always has to be busy making something. I was in Yearbook in high school and really enjoyed working with type, images, colours, and graphics. Graphic design allowed me to do all those things and was challenging enough to keep me invested. I will always be involved in graphic design somehow. I’m currently a graphic designer but, some day, I could be an art director or even a graphic design instructor. I’d like to keep my options open and see where life takes me. 

I got involved in skills competitions when I competed in the photography category at the provincial level in high school. When I went to school and my program was heavily involved in skills, I knew I had to compete in the graphic design category. Training for the skills competition has helped me in every aspect of my career and in much of my personal life. It’s helped me become more resilient, confident in my abilities, and better at making decisions. I’m proud at how far I’ve come from my experiences at the Skills Canada National Competition. 

Interesting Fact  

I love tropical houseplants and cacti. They bring me so much joy. 

Skills for Success 

Creativity is so important in design. You’re always finding new ways to solve problems creatively for clients. That could be coming up with a logo or designing a magazine layout. We can all improve our communication skills. This is key when working with anyone on a team, under or above you, as well as clients.
