My Skills journey
In 2012, I participated in the Provincial Skills Competition in Waterloo, Ontario, in the Health and Safety Demo Challenge with a peer, earning a bronze medal! This experience was exciting and inspiring, allowing us to connect with others and develop key skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and presentation skills. It also introduced me to the field of health and safety, offering valuable life skills and insight into potential career opportunities.
The impact of the skills competitions
This competition was pivotal in building my confidence and resilience. It also enhanced my communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. Most importantly, it taught me the value of stepping out of my comfort zone to take on new challenges. Gaining these experiences early on truly shaped my personal and professional growth, allowing me to approach both life and work with a proactive mindset and a willingness to embrace opportunities.
Why I love my job
As a Program Account Manager at Schulich ExecEd, Schulich School of Business, York University, my role centers on managing, designing and delivering customized executive education programs that create measurable impact across the private, public, and non-governmental sectors. What I find most rewarding is witnessing the tangible outcomes these programs generate. I take great pride in making learning both accessible and practical, building meaningful partnerships with clients along the way. It is fulfilling to support individuals and organizations as they achieve their goals and excel in an ever-evolving workforce. On a typical day, I engage with clients to understand their needs, collaborate with teams to design impactful programs, and oversee their successful implementation. I also enjoy the opportunity to connect with new clients and partners, fostering innovation and exploring ways to serve diverse audiences.
My advice for youth
For individuals exploring a career in executive education, account management, or learning and development, I recommend engaging with professionals across various industries through networking, volunteering, or collaborative projects. This exposure broadens your perspective, enhances your understanding of diverse needs, and helps you identify opportunities to design impactful learning experiences. Equally important is investing in your own professional growth. Pursue relevant certifications, attend industry events, and stay informed about evolving workforce trends and best practices. Cultivate a mindset of curiosity and adaptability, and remain steadfast in your commitment to creating meaningful, transformative experiences for learners. By combining continuous learning with a passion for making a difference, you can thrive in this dynamic and rewarding field.
