Electrical Installations

My Skills Journey

I started with Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) when my tenth-grade careers and opportunities teacher introduced me to them and thought I should compete.

In 2017, I competed for the first time provincially in electrical installations and job skill demonstration. I moved onto the national competition for job skill demonstration that same year. The next two years I competed in the same competitions provincially but made it to the nationals for electrical installations, where in 2019 I would win gold!

Once I entered the post-secondary level competitions, I would continue to compete in electrical installations where I would place silver in 2022, and then secure another gold in 2023.

Joining the National Alumni Committee

I wanted to stay affiliated with SCC and Skills Canada Nova Scotia for as long as I could. SCC was a huge part of my life for five plus years, and I wanted to give back any way I could. I am a huge advocate for joining SCC and I try to promote it in places where it would not normally reach.

Being a part of the National Alumni Committee (NAC) will give me an opportunity to advocate for skilled trades on a bigger platform and help me hone my leadership skills.

Overcoming Career Barriers

During the pandemic I was forced onto an online learning environment. The same as many others were. As, a hands-on learner this was a big struggle for me. Thankfully, I persevered through it and was able to get to the place that I am today.

Proudest Moment
My proudest moment is when I acquired my Red Seal Certification.
