My Skills Journey

I competed in the 2015 provincial skills competition in my Skill Area of Graphic Design. I won the silver medal! Skills/Compétences Canada has definitely given me confidence in my trade abilities and the chance to prove myself in my job!

Joining the National Alumni Committee

I joined the National Alumni Committee (NAC) because I wanted to give Saskatchewan youth the same opportunities that I was given in the skilled trades. Volunteering with NAC has given me the tools to ensure they have those chances. In recent years, I’ve been the President of Skills Canada Saskatchewan’s Alumni Committee, and also the Chair of the NAC. Being in those leadership positions, especially as part of the NAC, has given me great opportunities to meet new friends and network with industry leaders. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it!

Overcoming Career Barriers

Before I competed at the skills provincial competition, I had a lot of self-doubt. Winning a silver medal proved to me that I was good in graphic design, and it really looked good on my resume!

Proudest Moment

As a bindery worker in a print shop, seeing signs that I created mounted in public areas has been really cool! That’s definitely been one of my proudest moments in my career so far!
