Electrical Installations

My Skills Journey

I competed in my Skill Area of Electrical Installations at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) 2022, in Vancouver, BC, and I won the gold medal. That experience has changed my life! It gave me the strength to say that I belong in the trades, and it has validated the struggles I had to even get to this point.

Joining the National Alumni Committee

I wanted to join the National Alumni Committee (NAC) as a way to give back. I want to help by promoting the skilled trades or even just sharing my story to hopefully inspire others. My favourite part about being involved with the NAC has been the new experiences. I’ve never been in a position where I’ve had to be in the limelight before, and I both love and need to learn how to be a true role model for others.

Overcoming Career Barriers

I faced some barriers in my career path during my first year in the trade. I hadn’t even picked up a tool until that point. That, coupled with a slightly poor work ethic at the time, led to me being laid off and struggling to find work. The experience forced me to adapt and make some real changes to myself and my work. Since then, I’ve hit my stride in this industry!

Proudest Moment

The proudest moment of my life has been winning a gold medal at SCNC 2022, in Vancouver!
