Pierre-Olivier Desmarais

Trade: Bricklaying
School: École des métiers de la construction de Montréal
Employer: Maçonnerie USC
Hometown: Montreal, Quebec
Age: 21

"Initially I was enrolled at a university in philosophy when I decided to pursue a skilled trade in bricklaying. I find this trade fascinating and when I look at older buildings it makes me dream and inspires me to want to build something similar in the future."

  • I am hoping to win a medallion of excellence at the upcoming WorldSkills Competition.
  • Interesting fact about Pierre-Olivier: I have a one-year-old child.
  • I feel that numeracy and thinking are the Essential Skills that are the most important for my trade, in the upcoming competition. You have to know exactly what angle you should cut and the exact measurement of all of the pieces that are being assembled. Making errors on calculations is costly in terms of time.
