Vale Canada Limited Increases Sponsorship Support for Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC)

Vale Canada Limited Partners with SCC and its Member Organizations to Promote Careers in Skilled Trades

OTTAWA, March 3, 2015 /CNW/ – Vale Canada Limited (Vale) has increased its support of Skills Canada from its existing partnership with Skills Manitoba to now include sponsorship of the SCC national secretariat, and its Member Organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario. A two-year agreement is now in place between SCC and Vale.

“Skills Canada is very pleased to partner with Vale to increase awareness of the need for skilled trade workers in the mining industry and also to highlight the many great career opportunities that are available within this field,” saidShaun Thorson, Chief Executive Officer of Skills Canada.

Vale’s increased sponsorship commitment includes:
Gold Level partner of Skills Canada Ontario In-School Presentation Programs, and exhibit space at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition;
Education Partner of Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador’s In-School Presentation Programs, Skills Work for Women® (SWFW) Conferences, Intermediate and Provincial Competitions and Annual Skilled Career Day;
Platinum Partner of Skills Canada Manitoba’s In-School Program Presentations, Young Women’s Conference, and Skilled Trades & Technology Showcase;
Official Sponsor of the 2015 WorldSkills Team Canada.

WorldSkills Team Canada 2015 and other notable personalities including Global News Broadcaster Tom Clark, Mike Holmes Junior and others, will be in Ottawa, on Thursday March 5th to formally announce the members of WorldSkills Team Canada 2015.

“When Vale invests in programs that support awareness of and exposure to skilled trades and technology, we not only invest in a more prosperous and sustainable future for our children and youth in this country, but we also know that we’ll see a return on the investment for our company”, said Cory McPhee, Vice-President of Corporate Affairs at Vale.

Vale is committed to supporting the continuous development and education of a diverse, skilled and qualified workforce, especially in the areas of trades and technology. There are many great careers and bright futures for youth, but many are not aware of the full range of opportunities or the skills and training required to attain that bright future. Programming and events like those offered by Skills Canada ensure that youth will experience a fuller range of career possibilities, and will be acknowledged for their efforts and learning relative to trades and technology.
